Childhood Asthma Symptoms

The Recognition And Reccommended Treatment Of Childhood Asthma Symptoms.

Asthma is a very serious and potentially life threatening disorder. The definition of asthma according to google health is "An inflammatory disorder of the airways, which causes attacks of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. " Asthma is a very serious problem; however, it is easier to treat when detected at an early age. It is easier to take care of one's child's asthma if one can recognize childhood asthma symptoms and is educated on triggers that cause these effects to occur in children. This knowledge also makes treatment and relief of children's asthma symptoms much easier. Childhood asthma symptoms can be very bothersome and interfere with everyday activities such as sports, school and even sleep. If one does not take care of their child's asthma symptoms this can cause very serious or even fatal asthma attacks.

The most common symptoms that children experience when struggling with asthma are coughing, a whistling or wheezing noise that occurs when exhaling, a tightness in the chest or chest congestion as well as shortness of breath. However these are not the only symptoms that indicate that a child has asthma. Other signs that are indicative of asthma are trouble sleeping due to any of the above listed symptoms, long recovery from a respiratory infection or bronchitis, fatigue or difficulty breathing while participating in sports or everyday activities (which is a sign of exercise-induced asthma) and also coughing or wheezing that worsens with common respiratory infections such as a cold or the flu. It is important to keep in mind that every child is different and children with asthma may suffer from varying symptoms with a varying level in severity. Wheezing is the most common symptom of childhood asthma. But, many children who have asthma never wheeze and simply suffer from chronic cough or lingering chest tightness.

It is also recommended to remember that the above listed indicators of asthma can also be signs that a child is ill with bronchitis or another respiratory infection. If a child is displaying symptoms of childhood asthma it is important to take this child to the doctor and allow a professional to diagnose them. But, it is sometimes difficult to decipher whether a child needs to go to a doctor or needs to be taken to the emergency room. Some severe childhood symptoms of an acute asthma attack are the widening of the nostrils to simply inhale, the child is trying so hard to breathe that the abdomen is tucked under the rib cage while inhaling, the child is using their abdomen to breathe as opposed to the lungs, as well as the child being so short of breath that they have to stop in midsentence to breathe.
